A happy and hopeful new year to all!
It’s that time when pundits, celebrity watchers, movie critics, etc. recap their top-ten favorites and “unfavorites” of the year. I could add my own entries to the throng, but Sarah van Gelder of Yes! magazine does a far better job expressing the fondest hopes of this Ecolocity member, with her outstanding list. See especially #8 below:
"DIY (do it yourself) communities are piloting the shift to a people-centered society. These folks understand that real security during tough times is found in the "social capital" of community. At the same time, they are creating experiments in green and just ways of life. They aren't waiting for policy changes or bailouts, instead, they are helping each other now and getting on with the most extraordinary project of our time: building a better world."
(See the whole list at http://www.alternet.org/story/116728/10_reasons_to_be_hopeful_about_2009_--_and_3_reasons_to_be_terrified_/)
Reads as if she’d been attending Ecolocity meetings, no? Or maybe she’s merely reporting what is happening in countless cities and towns around America, around the world? This is a hope worth growing…
Forward – so much more to be done (and learned) in 2009.
Gerri
