Film: The Garden at E Street Cinema

May 15, 2009 from 7:15pm to 10pm
The Garden is an engaging and powerful look at the famous political and social battle over the largest community garden in the U.S., located in south central Los Angeles. A follow-up to filmmaker Scott Hamilton Kennedy's award-winning documentary, OT: Our Town, the film shows how the politics of power and greed (backroom deals, land developing, green politics, money) tragically intersect with working class families who rely on this communal garden for their livelihood. Hi Resh, thanks for joining us and honoring us with your presence. Feel free to customize your page, post questions, thoughts, articles, photos, videos, add cool apps, make friends, message privately, join or create groups that reflect your interests.

We look forward to your participation in anchoring our vision with your energy and expertise as we seek to live more sustainably and equitably. We plan a wide range of programs and your input will be welcome.

We meet WEEKLY due to the enormity of the challenges and the urgency needed to address the issues that face us - Tuesdays 7 pm at Emergence Community Arts Collective, 733 Euclid Street NW, WDC 20001. We've been following a schedule something like this:
1st week - Food & Farming
2nd week - Transition
3rd week - Film
4th week - Community Building: Planning & Networking
5th week when there's one - Special guest
but any can be trumped by urgent matters arising. For example, we devoted the first meeting in 2009 to building the infrastructure for an alternative local economy based on time banks and/or local currency, such as Anacostia Hours in circulation in Mount Rainier, and we've met at Takoma Village Cohousing for a presentation.
