Of course, i dream a lot but few have been striking enough that i would want to record them - until this morning. Dream I'm climbing up what seems to be a sheer rock face, one that's been designed, much like one of those impossible scenarios typical of video games. Each pixel of this contrived universe is a three-dimensional cube rather than a square, so irregularities in the rock surface

Another solstice and i'm reminded more than ever that i don't have any time to waste. I feel there's still work for me to do before i shuffle off this mortal coil. I had thought my contribution was to organize the world's wisdom but it seems Intelligence has other ideas and has hit on me, innumerate candidate that i am, to bring a new economic theory to light. It struck me as ironic but, as the

I fully support the Occupy protests and gratified that some people are waking up and making their objections known. I place the demonstrations in the context of the Arab Spring uprisings and other demonstrations throughout the world. They have a common cause even if they have not identified it exactly - the economic inequity of the monetary system. To be successful, the single demand of each of

Paradise Gardening

Very interesting essay by Joe Hollis here.

"Our world is being destroyed, in the final analysis, by an extremely misguided notion of what constitutes a successful human life. Materialism is running rampant and WILL CONSUME EVERYTHING, because its hunger will never be sated by its consumption. Human life has become a cancer on the planet, gobbling up all the flows of matter and energy, poisoning with our… Continue

Are you an early adopter?

Could you be a Climate Pilot? It doesn't take much. Just go meatless for one day a week, then two, maybe three. No, you don't have to become vegetarian, just eat less meat. You'll be reducing greenhouse gas production considerably. New year, right time, new habit.

With help from Sweden, 4 Northern Virginia families are 'Climate Pilots'

This is what i mean ...

Social sustainability must include rehabilitation and restoration of marginalized and broken populations such as the homeless, substance abusers and the incarcerated. There are enough successful working models to show how this can be better done. Growing food and flowers seems to have a therapeutic effect on troubled minds, much in the way that working with animals, especially horses, seems to have on autistic kids. I'd love to see these ideas carried out at Hill East, where the DC jail… Continue

EDAP

I came across this perfect approach to creating an Energy Descent Action Plan in my anthology of quotations, Wisdom for the Soul: Five Millennia of Prescriptions for Spiritual Healing. In Transition-speak it's known as fore- and backcasting.

Instead of always looking at the past, I put myself ahead twenty years and try to look at what I need to do now in order to get there then.

Dear Larry,
I agree with your comments. Recently, it has been reported and acknowledged that friends can be even more valuable than family in helping us sustain health and happiness. Even with family and friends, one can become isolated because of health or other reasons and the burden that can fall upon one caretaker. Thus, I see an intentional community as one that is also spiritual in nature in that those in the community are consciously willing to support others at whatever stage they find themselves in life. Admittedly, that view might seem more appropriate for a cloistered religious group, but I think it might be a possibility.

As you probably know, i made it home safely from the East Coast. After that was the big ExtraOrdinary Technology conference in Albuquerque. Some podcast interviews from that, along with those form the Alternative Energy Partnership Conference in Maryland, are now available at http://www.teslaacademy.info

One new project involves a car co-op, where several families can collectively own a variety of vehicles using diverse fuel types. Vehicles can be checked out for specific needs.

It's currently impossible to say exactly when i will be returning to the DC area, but of course you will be among the first to know when arrangements reach critical mass. Again, it was a great joy to meet you! Hope this community gets rolling well!

is there a way for all us to become 'friends' without going through the list one by one?

Larry,

This website (http://www.greenadvantage.org/about-people-gradyo.php_) has some information on Grady O'Rear, who is the developer of the ecovillage in Loudoun County. Grady is also the president of the Green Advantage Inc. More information about both are provided in the url. I think Grady would be a great person to join in our network.

Also, do you have the link for that sheet you mentioned last night. You know the sheet with the little tabs you can pull out.

I know first hand that Casey Trees is very resourceful with the land, mapping out all area's in the city that can grow a tree. So, I imagine they could know more than me.

But an area that first comes to mind is Sargeant RD and Gallatin St NE, here is a stretch of park federally owned as it is part of the Fort Circle parks. This broad stretch of green receives full sun, is a hill peak so is more arid than wet. Foot traffic seems low, unfortunate for building support, but residential is high as there are apartments and townhouses surrounding the area and there are bus stops along Sargeant RD. There is no water source within the park. There may be a line underground that may not be hard to tap.

There could be a whole forum topic for where 200 fruit trees could go. We could share an interactive map to place marks on what areas we've scouted.

Casey Trees is hiring for two positions, if you need a job with a busy but awesome organization dedicated to empowering people with tree knowledge as a winning strategy to raise up the canopy and to perceive geographically-holistic.

Susan and I have been talking for some time about alternative finance, and its place in community development, and we have been thinking of creating a discussion piece. We are putting our heads together on this and will post something hopefully before long on the web site.

Cheers, Chris.
