February 20, 2010 from 9:30am to 4pm
In its third year, Rooting DC promotes gardening as a low-cost way to provide food for families, particularly in areas where fresh, affordable food is hard to come by because of a lack of supermarkets (such as East ofthe River). Profile Information

Occupation
Mother, wife, homemaker, teacher, poet
What is your motivation for joining this group?
I live in Anacostia SE DC which is in great need of the knowledge thta comes with understanding ecology and the variety of ways to live free even in the city. At this time, I'm trying to network and learn from those already in this movement. My family has learned to garden and want to learn more. I'm interested in discovering a group that is both culturally relevant to me as an African American and a working class person.
What skills or experience would you share? We need architects, artists, planners, scholars, farmers, web wizards, fundraisers, vintners, vegan chefs, grant writers, carpenters, beekeepers, scientists, dreamers, lobbyists - you get the idea ...
I'm a teacher and poet. I've also been gardening with my son at the Youth Garden and have a level of expertise as a result of our participation for the last 4 years.
Previous collective living experience?
homesteading
What are your areas of interest?
alternative commerce, organic food, permaculture, recycling, urban farming, wellness
What level of commitment to an intentional community would you consider at this point?
just curious

My son will be participating as well. Most of the green community seems to live very far from me (Anacostia) or have… Continue
