The capital future begins now

We are planning a "Coffee and Conversation" on Transition at Betsy's house on Saturday March 3rd at 10am.  So this is a call for articles and video clips.  If you know of any good articles/videos on transition, please post them here.  For our "Coffee and Conversation" we will probably lean towards shorter articles/videos, but we also want to have a page of good resources.  So don't limit yourself to just short ones.

And mark your calendar for March 3rd!

Margo,

Thanks for starting this thread.  Here are some suggested articles.  The first is a MUST READ.  The others have either been sent to me or I have started to read them . . maybe you could help sift thru and decide which ones would be good discussion starters.  They are not directly on "Transition", but they deal with economics, climate change, the Occupy Movement, etc.

I think my top 3 right now are the Naomi Klein article, the Chris Martenson video, and the interview with Rob Hopkins (first link above).  Although I am thinking that it might be good to have another article that talks more in depth about Transition.

What do other people think?

I was going thru old papers and found another article.  This one is specifically on Transition.  I think this might be a very good one for March 3rd.

sorry, I found another one, from Bill McKibben.  It is a bit dated (2008) but I think it raises the basic point regarding personal action versus community (and political) action.  Perhaps we should hand it out at each Wrap Up Meeting for our circles.  What do you think?

I keep finding good articles.  This one is about Climate Change denial among Republicans

http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,2096055,00.html

I love the line: "climate denialism exists in part because there has been a long-term, well-financed effort on the part of conservative groups and corporations to distort global-warming science."

Lore,

Thanks for posting all of these articles - so many good ones to choose from.  Right now I am leaning towards the Naomi Klein article and the one about Transition in Orion Magazine.  I like the Bill McKibben article too and agree that it is a good one for circle wrap-up.

We should probably nail down the ones for the March 3rd Coffee and Conversation so we can start letting people know (and they have time to do the reading).

Does anyone else have a favorite?

Hi, all,

Here is the link to Bill Kauth's book on creating communities.  He has a lifetime of experience and much wisdom to share.
