The capital future begins now

I had posted this some time ago elsewhere on this site but thought it would be easier to locate if i placed it here. Please read, make comments, suggestions. I also have some other pieces posted in my blog on this site.

If we want this to manifest, we need to do basic research to identify property, determine ownership and pursue different avenues towards occupancy. We do not have to own, but if that's how it turns out, so be it.

Hello, Larry.

My wife and I plan to move to an eco-village/intentional community within 5-6 years; and Joan has visited a couple in the Southeast (The Farm, Earth Haven). Do you want to move to a more rural area, or do you want a community in an urban area?

Hi Bob,

So glad you joined this group. It's been kinda lonely here. So many have expressed an interest in intentional community yet they have stayed away. Go figure. I admit living-in-community is a momentous life-decision to make with far-reaching implications so it's not something easily approached. Yet, all we're doing at this point is having a conversation. I commend and encourage you and Joan in your resolve.

My own vision centers around an urban community. There are not many of those around. The bulk of the population lives in urban areas and not many will have the privilege of moving to rural havens. We therefore have to develop models that will apply to the majority of folks. It will require wholesale re-thinking and re-education for the mainstream, rather than developing self-contained retreats for the already committed.

I've visited Twin Oaks, Acorn, and Chrysalis in this area; Ganas on Staten Island; and Findhorn in Scotland. I am most impressed with Findhorn, particularly the way they are integrated into the life of the town. I envision that our urban community will be an integral part of DC, or wherever our pods crop up.
