The Seeds of Sustainability

Our intention is to transform the Emergence Garden into a Sustainability Center where folks can come to experience, participate and learn skills and practices in permaculture and organic food production. We will invite permaculture teachers and master gardeners to speak, offer classes and demos. We will also work towards integrating urban agriculture into the educational curriculum from grade school through to tertiary.

Gerri Williams williard2738@gmail.com is in currently in charge of the garden, assisted by Zachari Curtis and Amy Marie Sol.

Work days are Saturdays from 3 pm and Tuesdays from 5 pm. Feel free to drop in at those times, or whenever convenient, to weed, plant, trim, clean up, whatever needs to be done.

I'm moving from my place in DC this Sunday. I did a small lasagna garden that has some great soil. There is plenty of mulch and compost material that I have gathered. Is ECAC interested in the soil, the mulch, and compost material I have gathered for and from my garden? Let me know, if it is needed so we can work out the logistics. It has to be moved by Sunday at the latest.

Hi everyone. Unfortunately I don't have any direct experience to offer to the cause, but I'd love to help out however I can and learn as much as possible.

Join Sharing Backyards!

My friend and I recently set up the DC chapter of Sharing Backyards. The website encourages urban gardening by connecting people who have space to garden and are willing to share with people who would like to have a gardening space. Whether you're an apartment dweller in search of some good earth or a property-owner with land to share, this site's for you.

We hope you all will take a minute to visit the site. Go to http://dc.sharingbackyards.com to add your listing to the city map and help us get the project off the ground. Spread the word to friends, neighbors, and other interested parties. For questions or suggestions, email sharingbackyardsdc@gmail.com

Congrats Esmerelda on setting up Sharing Backyards. You have our full support. We had already posted the information on our main page under Notes. I'm sure some of members will be involved.

Anyone planning to come out on Saturday 3/21? Sarah, our coordinator will be absent and so will i. Contact her sarahmurph@gmail.com for instructions. Last time i checked , lots of seeds had germinated. Probably just some weeding, bed prep needs to be done, but check with Sarah.

Hello, just joined. Does anyone know the status of the community garden under development at Justice Park? From the DPR site looks like it will have community gardening plots as well as composting facilities, but the latest update I could find was February of this year.
