Hi All. I found the following software that is used by complementary/local currency systems to help with the tracking and online banking. The software is produced under a Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) liscence so implementation costs would be minimal. check it out and let me know what you think.

Cyclos software (http://project.cyclos.org/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1)

Cyclos is open source online banking software for complementary currency systems like LETS, Barter networks, Time banks and exchange systems that are introduced in order to stimulate the circulation and the availability of credit in regions or countries with under-use of capacities. The Cyclos team is also looking for opportunities to allow micro finance institutions easy linkage with their administration to use Cyclos as their transactional (on-line banking) system.

Hello All,

I am presenting tomorrow night on local currencies (based on my recently completed dissertation) and would like to know the basis of issuance for Potomacs, please. As they appear not to follow the Ithaca Hours model, am I right in surmising that each Potomac is issued one-for-one to each US Dollar paid in exchange at a business or local cambio? (as opposed to the Hours model of issuing new currency when businesses advertise in the newsletter)
Is there a website detailing this information, or could I speak with Larry Chang when possible?
Many thanks,
Shira

Hi Shira,
Potomacs are modeled after Berkshares, purchased into existence at $0.95 but traded on par with the US dollar. Information is available on Wikipedia as well as the Facebook page for Potomac Local Currency. You can reach Larry at GreaterWashingtonExchange at gmail dot com.

Many thanks, and my apologies for the delayed response. I have been ill and also finishing the reformats for publication of my dissertation as a book. I will email Larry, and also must rsvp with my regrets for the talk tonight as Busboys and Poets due to short notice and prior plans for today. I would very much have liked to attend.
Be well,
Shira Destinie Jones

Especially during times of economic hardship, it's important that we come together to create a new economy in DC -- one that values each of our unique contributions to the community. Join the DC Time Bank.

New to the concept? A Time Bank creates a currency that values the Core Economy: the economy of home, family, neighborhood and community. If you're unfamiliar with the Time Banking concept, follow the links on this page.
