Are There Links Between
Weather Extremes and Climate Change?
with
Dr. Wayne Higgins
Director, Climate Prediction Center
National Weather Service, NOAA
Tornados in Maryland, drought in the West, and hurricanes on the Gulf Coast !!! What is happening? In his highly informative, illustrated presentation, Dr. Higgins will explain why we are seeing so many weather extremes and how scientists can accurately predict climate change decades ahead. He will also explain important differences and connections between weather and climate, as well as the differences between natural climate variability and human-induced climate change.
The afternoon will include nutritious, freshly prepared refreshments, information tables to view and interesting people to meet.
At 3:30 – 4:30 PM, Emphasis/Action group discussions will be held. Dr. Higgins will lead “Weather Q & A’s”. Other groups from which to choose include: “Congregations Caring for the Earth” with George Fisher, and “Organic Vegetable Gardening” with Master Gardener Jerry Kissel.
