Event Description

We're moving to a slightly new schedule, where we're having the 1st Tuesday be a "Planning for Action" meeting and the 3rd Tuesday be a "Active Working" meeting. For this month, we'll be trying a new format, where we have a short introduction and then split into Working Groups. Don't worry if you've never attended! We welcome input and love for new people to participate.

Here's a brief agenda:
7:00-7:15: Personal introductions and announcements
7:15-7:30: Introduction of three Working Groups and their issues
7:30-8:45: Working Group meetings
Group 1: Transition Training planning and organization - We have been invited to participate in training to become an official transition group. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with new groups and attract new people. However, this will require quite a bit of organization and logistics. But we're happy to meet the challenge!
Group 2: Garden Workshop organization - We've received a grant from Washington Parks and People to carry out several gardening workshops in our teaching garden at the Emergence Community Arts Collective. We have set topics for these workshops, but we'll be talking about timing, promotion and other issues. We'd love for anyone who has expertise - or just wants to learn - help us with these workshops.
Group 3: Bruce Monroe School Projects - The Bruce Monroe School is an elementary school on Georgia Ave. that has been torn down because of asbestos issues. The City of DC has requested the community come up with a plan for the property and Ecolocity is helping organize the environmental element. This group will plan out a composting project and how we can contribute to the community garden there.
